Fred Perry, Stone Island, Burberry – Council Cut is an artist who loves his clobber, and has even named his latest single after one of his favourite pairs of trainers.
The Stoke-based ‘Britpop Hiphop’ maestro has hit the ground running in 2024 with his latest track Air Max, and its message is one that will no doubt resonate with listeners setting themselves New Year Resolutions.
Speaking on the release, he said: “The song is about navigating life, sticking your ‘Air Max’ on and going straight to your destination, ignoring any distractions along the way.”
Known for his distinctive sound and clever lyrical prowess, Council Cut brings a slightly more polished offering in comparison to previous releases like Sound and Same Old, blending an electronic beat with an irresistible 80s synth-pop style chorus as he carves out his undeniably unique genre.
The track kicks off with an infectious electronic beat that sets the pace for Council Cut’s sharp and dynamic vocals that weave through the verses with a rhythmic precision that’s reminiscent of Mike Skinner and Jamie T.
Lyrically, Air Max offers a message of empowerment and resilience, while the 80s synth-pop chorus injects a dose of nostalgia with its airy, layered vocals that showcase Council Cut’s ability to blend genres, push boundaries and experiment with different musical elements.
Council Cut has earned the support of other artists among the scene with this track, too, with rapper Mick saying it’s his ‘favourite one so far’ while Average Joe suggests he’s ‘about to create a new genre’.
Council Cut is no doubt striding his way to future success with his catchy choruses and distinctive style, with Air Max being a testament to his commitment to musical innovation and creativity.
