Fractured Mind exceed themselves with latest single For All I’ve Done

Guest review by Captain’s Bar events manager, Say Something Music label owner and promoter Scott Evans

I was lucky enough to have caught Fractured Mind’s first gig – not a conventional show at one of Staffordshire’s traditional venues – but one which was streamed live from the city’s popular rehearsal and recording space the Riff Factory. I booked them immediately for a headline show at Captain’s Bar – which they went on to sell out.

And then there’s the side project of Hood Music, who has played numerous acoustic gigs that I have had the pleasure of mixing the sound for. It’s been nothing short of a joy to watch these band members progress, and their latest single All I’ve Done is real testament to that growth.

For those new to the band, Fractured Mind are a hard rock band from Newcastle-under-Lyme, formed in late 2021. Comprising of twin brothers Rob Hood (vocals) and Jack Hood (Rhythm Guitar), alongside Edward Rooke (Lead Guitar), Conor Henson (Drums) and Andrew Johnson on Bass. I’m a huge fan of Rob’s vocals. He has a mixture of gravel and power that I would liken a lot to the late Chris Cornell, and that has to be one of the best compliments you can bestow on a rock singer.  All I’ve Done really delivers on the vocals – the melody and power are bang on the money.

The song kicks off with an instantly catchy guitar riff and when the rest of the band join in, that effect is really well executed with simple but really effective production.

The riff drives the song forward with Rob adding that previously mentioned vocal melody. The chorus hits seamlessly and the two combined guitars make the song sound massive. Following the second chorus there is a top class guitar solo which I assume comes from lead guitarist Edward Rooke, it’s an effective use of a bridge and gives the music a real chance to shine. Underpinning the whole song is a solid rhythm section from Andrew and Connor, they do exactly what is needed for the song.

It’s said that each single should be better than the last and I personally think that All I’ve Done is a huge leap from their last single Consumed – which I also liked – both in songwriting and production. Fractured Mind offers something different in a crowded metal scene and is well worth checking out.

Bethan, founder of The Leopheard added: “Fractured Mind’s latest single, All I’ve Done, sees the band exceed themselves both musically and professionally. The band’s evolution is evident in every note and is a testament to their musical prowess with this brooding rock record. Echoing what Scott has said, Rob’s vocals really stand out, and the guitar work is extremely complimentary. I’m looking forward to hopefully catching the boys live soon.”
