Oli Ng follows up debut album with intimate new single You’re Not On Your Own

Oli Ng possesses a beautiful quality in his knack for penning delicate and introspective records that touch on the topics of male mental health, and his latest single You’re Not On Your Own is no different.

The single arrives following the debut album Everything Is Impossible Until It Happens – a collection that solidified Oli Ng’s standing as a skilled storyteller –  where tracks like Haunted House and Waiting For Me To Call saw similar themes. And with You’re Not On Your Own, the Cheshire singer-songwriter continues to champion the topic in a sensitive and vulnerable way, this time, from a fresh perspective.

“This is a song I wrote after the album had been released,” Oli shares. “It’s a song for a close friend, who went through an incredibly tough time. I planned on releasing it before the end of last year, to round off the album year but I ran out of time. So I suppose it can be the start of 2024 instead!”

Stripped-back and intimate, this deeply personal record opens with a haunting finger-picked intro that sets the stage for Oli’s folk-infused vocals, his uncomplicated lyrics extending a helping hand to anyone grappling with their own struggles.

He added: “I recorded and played all the parts on this one. I wanted it to be like that, as it’s quite a personal song. The line “we’ve never been ones, to open up our hearts to each other” sums this song up really. This is my message to my friend.”

In an era where conversations around mental health are increasingly crucial, Oli’s Bob Dylan-esque contribution with the cathartic You’re Not On Your Own reinforces his position as a genuine and compassionate storyteller amongst the scene.
