The Revenants offer modern take on classic dad rock in two-track EP 124 + Delta Down

Unrepentant Stoke-on-Trent trio The Revenants carry the torch of classic rock while infusing it with a punk spirit in their latest two-track EP 124 + Delta Down. Written pre-Covid, the band has sat on these songs for some time, but finally, this August 25, 2023, they’ve released them from their cage for all to hear.

The EP’s opening track, 124 (One Two Four), rides high on thunderous drums, searing guitar riffs and low, growling basslines, launching an assault on the senses with pop-punk style lyrics layered atop the high-octane instrumental. Delivering a catchy chorus and blistering guitar solo, The Revenants nod to influences like AC/DC and Guns ‘N’ Roses with their modern take on classic dad rock and a solo that would challenge the most seasoned expert Guitar Hero players.

After the adrenaline-fueled chaos of 124, the dual-release takes a genre detour with Delta Down. A departure from the breakneck pace of its predecessor, this track delves into the depths of doom-blues. The slow and brooding atmosphere showcases their versatility and willingness to explore different facets of rock, inviting listeners to embrace the shadows through sombre undertones akin to Led Zeppelin. The vocals here are gravelly and rugged, with hard edged guitars that balance the rawness of a live performance with the polished qualities of a studio recording.

Offering songs about mental health, life’s ups and downs, and some skeletons in the closet, the pulse of raw, unbridled rock makes a triumphant return with The Revenants’ latest EP, 124 + Delta Down.
