Tom Hewitt releases indie pop hit Time ahead of debut EP

Review by Lee Barber, The Underground Venue Manager, Co-Producer of The Honey Box and Honey Box Hive project lead

Guitar lashes in with constant, gentle strokes and I am taken immediately to the soft scent of fresh grass on a summer’s afternoon, a backbeat of innocence and ice creams, laughter and love, a beat to bring a nostalgic smile, while the lyrics to Tom Hewitt’s playful new single Time offer a different perspective entirely.

‘Time can be a relatable song to people who have been let down by someone after giving them numerous chances. It’s a song about basically being made a mug out of over and over.’

Tom’s suggestive explanation of the song offers invaluable insight, and takes you at once to that time you allowed yourself to be made a complete fool of, and his lyrics spark in you those painful memories which have made you stronger, given you the believe that yes you do deserve better.

The chorus to Time is pure indie pop anthemic vibe, shades of Sam Fender shining through unapologetically and is sure to be one to get crowds singing along upon its release on April 26. Time is the third single released from Hewitt’s EP Homemade, which is out on June 14, and follows Tom’s intentional pattern of creating upbeat songs with downbeat lyrics, a formidable clash few can execute, though here Hewitt seems to have achieved with ease. Having written Time over the course of last autumn, Tom recorded the song as a demo and then went to work on it with producer Jonny Price, during which time plenty of fun was had experimenting with new sounds and techniques, crafting the tune into the scorcher we are gifted in Time.

Artists which Tom mentions as influences for this song include Vacation Manor, Sam Fender, Holly Humberstone and Amber Run, and if you’re a fan of any of these artists, you will certainly be a fan of Tom Hewitt. Give a listen to his latest track, Time here:
